✅ Measure what matters: at the most basic level, a heart rate monitor ensures your easy training is truly easy which overtime helps you to avoid setbacks & burnout.
✅ Trial sports nutrition: sampling the variety of sports drinks & foods available is a good way to learn your personal preferences & needs.
✅ Improve form & economy: refined skills, improve technique, slow it down to be mindful about how you swim, bike, run before you add speed. Better economy is free speed.
✅ Shore up the swim: just because it’s downriver doesn’t mean disregard swim training. Emerging from any swim fresh with low anxiety leads to a better race day. Now is the time to connect with a local swim coach, swim frequently, build confidence.
✅ Pace yourself: your fall & winter training should look nothing like race day. Set aside long rides & runs for now. Instead, work technique, speed skills, strength & general fitness.
✅ Consider coaching: there’s no shortage of online plans or coaches out there. Consider your goals & needs. As coaches, we strongly believe all athletes (regardless of speed or experience) can benefit from an engaged, experienced coach.
