When compared to neutral self-talk, using motivational self-talk can make you go faster. Not only that but talking to yourself in the second person also improves power and speed.

It’s important to note that studies have shown self talk does NOT influence your rate of perceived exertion. No amount of fitness or verbal finesse will ever make a race effort feel easier.

Free speed is hard to come by. Athletes will pour loads of money and time into eking out marginal gains. But what if it’s as easy as the things you say to yourself and how you say those things? That’s not only free speed, that’s easy and accessible to everyone. 😎

So before your next race or tough work out, have an arsenal of things you might say to yourself.
